The AftermathA Poem by Laura HarrisonEver since
you left me, Alcohol has
become my best friend; My security
blanket now that your arms aren’t wrapped around me. I replaced
the sweet taste of your lips for the bitter taste of whiskey And it’s a
load of crap that drinking makes you forget everything Because I still
recall the look in your eyes when you went to kiss me, every time I lift the
bottle to my mouth. I miss the
way your hand felt clasped in mine, and I wish that I could turn this bottle
into your hand right now. I remember
the night of our wedding reception, when I had had too much to drink And when we
got back home, I was sick all over our Persian rug, but you just laughed and
said “it’s a good job I love you, darling.” I wish I could
live that moment every day, because at least then I would be drunk and happy. But most of
all, I remember the moment I found you dead in the bedroom; An empty
bottle of Moonshine lying beside you… I always did
follow in your footsteps. © 2013 Laura HarrisonReviews
