Pain Isn't Beautiful

Pain Isn't Beautiful

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I couldn’t count how many pictures I have seen of cuts on people’s arms, with captions saying “this is so beautiful.”

I have been in that place before, and let me tell you, it was not pretty.

Self-harm is a toxic disease that infests in your mind and makes you believe that you are not beautiful, so why would you think that the lines across your arms are?

There are so many people who starve themselves to get the body they see in all the glamorous magazines,

To be the person who has everyone queuing up to sink into their body.

You may think that you will be able to stop ‘dieting’ when you have reached the ‘perfect weight’, but anorexia doesn’t stop for anybody;

It keeps on pushing you until you wither away like a flower.

It is scary how many people get tricked into thinking that suffering will make them beautiful

But once you drag that blade across your skin or skip a meal for the first time; it won’t be the last

And when it’s too late, you will realize that you were already beautiful.

So if you think pain is beautiful, your death won’t be.

I strongly like this honesty. This is a momentum of life that's beyond our eyes. I believe ur a strong advocate to people out there who are going thru such rough times.
Cutting yourself is not the answer, it's a deeper situation within oneself that you have to get a grasp on.
Thank you for sharing

You are very wise. I believe we learn real wisdom when we like the person in the mirror. Thank you for the amazing poem.

Thank you for your lovely comment, I love being called wise haha :)
Exactly! Society has people thinking that if they are sad someone will come along and "rescue" them and that their suffering is art. But to indulge in self pity is only going to bring worse feelings, and isnt the point of life to feel good?
