Just Another Stranger

Just Another Stranger

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Isn’t it kind of funny how someone who was once strangers to us can all of a sudden become our soul mate?

How we can get to know their deepest secrets and fears and find out they are more like us than we could have ever known

How we can wake up in the morning looking forward to when we get to see them

And how we can feel comfortable spending the rest of our lives with this person.

But isn’t it funny how that same person could just walk out of our lives at any time

And we have to spend the next couple of years trying to forget them

Trying to forget the freckles on their back or the way their mouth curled up at the edges when they kissed us

And when we walk past them in the street, we have to pretend like they are just another stranger to us.

I really enjoy reading your work. If I have one criticism it's that sometimes your grammar is a little off. But the emotions are very real and it is clear you have a passion in writing!

The beautiful thing about realizing that there's no such thing as a soul mate, is that you also realize that the meaning in your life can be based on greater things. I like the way the beginning of this calls back to the end, or vice versa actually. It gives it a roundness.

You can't wallow in the past, and long for the future, that would mean turning a blind eye to the person right in front of you. Many things that are beautiful in this world do not last. Enjoy them, give your all to be in that exact moment, that person may not be there again. Gorgeous poem.

This is fantastic. I love how the last line connects to the first and makes the poem like a circle.

Human connections can happen instantaneously. There are some who can go from stranger to friend in a heat beat. ; )
