To All The Boys Who SufferA Poem by Laura HarrisonYou must be
so tired of hearing about all the girls who
self-harm All the girls who suffer from bulimia or
anorexia While there
you are, feeling guilty about the last time you
cut yourself Or playing with the food on your plate, hoping that your mum won’t
notice. But why would
she? Because it’s
only girls that want to be thin, right?
Everyone
complains about how society sets standards for women But what they
fail to realize is that women themselves set standards for men. They talk
about how their perfect man is the one who has a six pack and looks like he
lifts weights 5 days a week And haven’t
you noticed how all male models look exactly like that? So you
stretch yourself to the limit to get the biceps to impress the girl Who refuses
to go out with you because you look awkward.
But I think
that you are perfect; And like
everyone tells women, you don’t have to keep destroying yourself,
You don’t
have to live up to other people’s expectations. © 2013 Laura HarrisonFeatured Review
