A Poem For All The Boys Who Tried To Save Me

A Poem For All The Boys Who Tried To Save Me

A Poem by Laura Harrison

You treat my depression like it’s some project for you to tackle,

But know that every sweet nothing you whisper in my ear will only make me loathe you

As I want to be the one who tells me how perfect I am.

If you are trying to make me feel something, then it isn’t working;

Your fingers can’t do magic tricks-

They won’t make me feel any less hollow by stroking my spine

I refuse to sink like all the ships that were designed to swim

But I don’t want you to be the anchor holding me down.

My parents once told me that happiness comes from within

And I’m pretty sure they didn’t mean,

“From within arrogant boys looking for the next best thing to get bored of”

I guess you believe in all that fairy-tale bullshit about how women are damsels in distress

Well, listen up, honey

The world has moved on from princesses and dragons,

So I don’t want you to be my knight in shining armour.

I don't know. Good to be saved. Good woman have saw my weaknesses and pick me up. A interesting poem. It is a new world. But we need support and help sometimes. I have three daughters and five sisters. I warned the men. Be careful. Woman can be demons too. I enjoyed your thoughts. A very good topic in the poem. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Such beauty and inspiration! I fell in love with this one :) it's sad to view how people think depressed people need to be 'fixed' when they need to understand that people aren't like toys. Sometimes, we have pieces missing and that's okay. We can't all be collectible or limited editions. It's something we have to learn to battle ourselves and its us against depressions darkest demons it decides to set free. It's nothing easy and some days will be better than others, but do know that some people cannot be fixed and that's the sad true about. Some are always going to be broken and lost. A lot of us are lucky to get out while we aren't too deep, but it gets harder to get out the deeper depression drags us.

I totally understand what you are saying. There is no way other way to overcome depression than to look within oneself. It is good that you don't want to wait around for someone to come save you, because happiness should be based on you and only you!

There is nothing wrong with getting help. You can sit in your room alone, hating the world you live in and wanting to love yourself, but obviously that doesn't work because here we both are? Happiness comes from the good of others. I wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for the little things people do. Not even to me, but just the goodness of others in general. You can't draw happiness from darkness, hun. It doesn't work that way. There is no light in darkness. It is just dark. There can be a candle with darkness surrounding it, or a lightbulb, or the sun, but that isn't dark! it is just there.

Very emotional and well written. Every thought you had was portrayed in a manner to make me think about what you said. Also addresses something us guys have trouble understanding. I myself have trouble not trying to "fix" issues or problems when I see them. You are so right though, no one can "fix" ather person. They have to find there own way.

Than I will not tell you how I would stroke away your pain or kiss your tears away. But this I will ask of you and it is straight from the heart...let me be at least an ear for you to yell in to from time to time, or a shoulder to cry on if one of us should ask. But most of all...i am no knight in shining armor. I am just a man who want's to help. And if the help you need is for me to just be a friend...than that is what I would be and not try to be anything else.

Great poem.

I love the attitude of the narrator here. And very truly said. Sometimes I feel that its sort of pathetic that us girls feel so superior and amazing when we have boys complimenting us. True happiness comes from within. Absolutely loved the last three ending lines.
