Things You Don't Have To Do

Things You Don't Have To Do

A Poem by Laura Harrison

You don’t have to start wearing make-up because that girl called you ugly

Because you are beautiful in your own unique way

And nobody should be allowed to tell you otherwise.

You don’t have to feel guilty for not wanting to have sex with your boyfriend

Because no-one else would be ready after 3 days either

And your body is not just for the purpose of being touched

You don’t have to keep punishing yourself with that blade

Because you have suffered enough already

And you are only adding insult to injury

You don’t have to change who you are

Because somebody doesn’t like you

You weren’t born to please anyone but yourself

So if anyone criticises you again…

Tell them that they can go to hell!
