The Lonely Life Of A WidowA Poem by Laura HarrisonAt meal
times, I still set the table for two people, Even though
only one seat is going to be occupied. When I
settle down to watch TV, I put your favourite channel on Because it
reminds me of how you always used to complain about not having control of the
remote. I still wake
up in the middle of the night and go to cuddle up to you But when I
turn around, all I am greeted by is an icy chill coming from your side of the
bed, As if your
ghost never left.
The other
day, I took a trip down memory lane to our wedding day. You looked
so handsome standing at the altar in your navy blue suit and the cutest smile I
had ever seen And at least
you didn’t lie when you said “till death do us part.”
I like to
think that you are looking down on me So would you
do me a favour and ask God if he has room for one more up in Heaven? Because
without you, I am not living, only existing. © 2013 Laura HarrisonReviews
