Waking Up From A Nightmare

Waking Up From A Nightmare

A Poem by Laura Harrison

A long time ago

When nothing in my life was good

I was drowning in my own blood

I woke up with tear stains down my face

Wondering how to get out of this dark place

My thoughts were twisted

And my mind was a prison cell

My life was a living hell

No matter how many times I tried

I could not find

A cure for my insanity

But then you turned up

Out of the blue

You turned up

Right on cue

I remember the first time you put your arm around me

And the way it made me feel

For the first time in a long while

My thoughts weren’t twisted

You were the one who made me heal

Now ten months down the line

Everything in my life is fine

I am the happiest I’ve ever been

You’ve freed me from myself

When I thought I was stuck in hell

You are my happily ever after
