To The Woman My Husband Left Me ForA Poem by Laura HarrisonYou will
probably think that these words are going to be poisonous and filled with
phrases such as “You deserve
each other” and “I hope he cheats on you too.” I admit, I did
consider penning a hateful letter; I could have
posted it through your letter box among with a pack of maggots, if I wanted to. But it is
said that great poets write from the heart… So I hope
that he treats you like the Princess every woman wants to be treated like And that he holds
you close when you cry. I hope he
lets you pick the movie sometimes And that he doesn’t
stay fixed on the TV screen throughout the entire thing. I hope that
he lets you have a say in where you dine when you go out to dinner And that he
doesn’t get annoyed at you when you burn his food. I hope that
he holds your hand whenever you go out And that he
takes you to see the sunset once in a while. I hope that
he means it when he tells you that he loves you And that he
listens to you when you have something difficult to tell him. I hope that
he tells you how beautiful you are every day And that he
doesn’t comment on how many calories are in whatever you are eating. I hope that
he doesn’t get stuck when choosing a gift for you because he knows exactly what
you like And I hope
that he doesn’t accidentally give you a gift meant for another woman. I hope that
he doesn’t ignore you after making love And that he
doesn’t disappear for 3 nights after a fight. I hope you
stay together long enough to reach your bronze wedding anniversary And most of
all, I hope that he doesn’t cheat on
you too. © 2013 Laura HarrisonReviews
