Monsters

Monsters

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Little girl, aged 5

Her momma’s tucking her in to sleep at night

She kisses her cheek and says

“Watch out for the monsters under your bed”

But the little girl is fast asleep

Dreaming of castles and princes

She can’t wait to be older

And become a princess

The little girl is now 15

The boy who lives across the street

Shattered her dreams

Now she is tearing apart at the seams

She hasn’t been able to sleep for days

Since she found solace inside a blade

She stopped looking for monsters under her bed

Because she realised they were in her head

Little girl, just turned 18

She finally met the Prince

Who wants to make her his Queen

He opened her up to so many doors

And the monsters don’t visit her anymore

If you looked a bit closer

You would see

That the little girl

Was in fact

Me

I liked this =) I feel like there could be a bit more detail in the second stanza. Was there anything else going on? Was the boy the only reason the girl was sad? Also, maybe change "in" to "inside" to keep the rhythm going. I love the whole Princes and princesses theme going on =) Just a cool idea, maybe find a way to connect the monsters and the prince. Maybe say he slayed them or something. OR Maybe the monsters could be dragons to fit the theme O_O just an idea =) Nice job.
