Scars

Scars

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Slice your skin to take away the pain

Wash all of your sins away

Cover up to hide the shame

Cry, cry, cry, and then refrain

Wear a plastic smile on your face

Let everyone think you’re doing ok

Make one more incision just in case

To make it through another day

Bite your tongue and ignore the burn

Ask yourself when you will ever learn

To keep yourself away from the blade

How can you undo the damage that you’ve made?

Now for the final stage

Break free from your cage

Lay down your weapons

Let down your guard

You are not your mistakes

You are not your scars

I believe all of us must break free from something. Each of us with different and personal scars. I like the reason and the purpose for the poem. I did like the ending. Every life is important. I like the complete poem. Thank you for the excellent poetry.

This poem starts out very dark and depressing and gives us a little light at the end. Good word choice and descriptive flow.
