To The Person Who Told My Friend To Kill Herself

To The Person Who Told My Friend To Kill Herself

A Poem by Laura Harrison

As a child, your mother probably told you the old saying

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me”

And you obviously believed this to be true

But words can fester in your mind

Lingering there like a bad smell

Until they start to rot and make you go insane

So when you told my friend to kill herself

You can imagine that she didn’t think

“Words can’t hurt me”

Because now she is gone forever

And I would like to know what was going through your mind

As you typed out those words with your dagger-like fingertips

Did you realize the impact those words would have on her?

Did you stop to think that she might actually listen to you?

Or do you just enjoy hurting people so much that they actually want to leave this world?
