Society's Definition Of BeautifulA Poem by Laura HarrisonFrom an age
as young as 10 We are
taught by society that fat is ugly and thin is beautiful That nobody
will ever love us if our waist is a little wider Or is we
have stretch marks before having a child
We envy all
the glamorous models in the magazines And we
devour beauty tips on how to get skin as flawless as theirs Or how to
lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks But the only
thing that we really need Is Photoshop
and some good editing skills
We start
skipping a meal a day Then two and
three Until
suddenly we are only living off a stick of celery and a glass of water And no
matter how much weight we lose- It’s never
enough We want
collarbones at thick as rope And ribs
stretched taut over our skin We all
strive to be beautiful We desire to
be loved
But it’s all
a trick We don’t
have to look like glamour models to be beautiful Because we
are all beautiful; No matter
what the size of our jeans are © 2013 Laura HarrisonReviews
