I fell in love with an idea
with the thought of us
not with you and I had the
two confused.
I thought I wanted you but
what I really wanted was someone
it didn't have to be you
but you where there at the
time so I went with it
Now its not working
both of us are hurting
and we want out
of this make believe that we made
if we didn't have everyone looking
would we feel the same
I don't think so
so we pretend to be happy
we pretend that things are okay
when what we really want is to
walk in opposite ways
what is the invisible glue
that holds us together
I think its our pride

Pride can be a killer of the ego but when you hang on to a dying relationship it can kill the spirit... to worry what others will think should never be a factor... very nicely written... the emotions were evident.
