The Loss of Love

The Loss of Love

A Poem by LatoyaEvans
"

This poem is about a breakup that was drawn out and had reached its end.

"

The loss of love.

By Latoya Evans

This time we said our last goodbyes,

No sobs, or cries, or lazy tears

For this goodbye was years in the making

No more pretending, no more faking

Time did not heal the wound of us

No bandage; to patch this up

We were stuck and all we thought we had to be

No understanding of what he wanted from me

Or me him.

We almost knew true love

But it ran away never to seen again

As long as he stayed in my company, and I stayed with him.

So I severed my connection

He felt the rejection

Got anger and hostile

Volatile, like a volcano about to erupt

I had already given up, but dangled there just a bit longer

For it was in these climatic episodes

I felt like he really did love me

And then the wind blew

Then I really knew; I was only his cushion

To retard his fall from grace

His lover, but only physically

He just poked at me in the dark

No connection, just internal rejection

Of all this was

I longed for all that was never ever realized

And with a heavy fractured heart and wet eyes

I finally said goodbye.
