Little Eden Boy

Little Eden Boy

A Poem by Abi Pelham
"

Written for a extra credit for school, a poem written about a gay man who is about to give up on life when he is found by a maid and is given acceptance for the first time in his life.

"
A poor young boy from Eden, innocence in it’s prime,
Was looked down upon by others so badly twas a crime.
He liked to hide away someplace, a haven he felt safe,
But he let a little secret slip and that was his mistake.
Words fell down upon his hide so hard he could not see,
He wondered when death would grace him, oh when would that be?

You’d think the secret would be something devilish and vile,
In fact it was a secret he’d be hiding for a while.
He did not feel like following a crowd, so he turned the other way,
He came right out unto the word and proclaimed ‘I am quite gay!’

Now of course the little Eden boy did not expect acceptance,
But he didn’t not come prepared for the public’s demeaning sentence.
‘You cannot love someone like you, you must fall for a maid!
You must be condemned to exile, until your repentance is paid.’

The poor young boy was beaten and bruised, left naked on the street,
As time passed on the Eden boy was close to admitting defeat.
Surely love could not be worth the pain he was put through?
Torn between love and pain, oh what was he to do.

Until one day he wandered past a cottage, small and white,
The small brown door opened fast and gave him quite a fright.
A kindly little lady, a maid with flaxen hair,
Abandoned her own small comforts and strode out of her lair.

She saw his arm twas broken and nose all red and runny,
She took him back into her house and fed him milk and honey.
She wrapped him in a blanket and chased off every fright,
She took his hands into her own and said ‘All will be alright’

From that day on the Eden boy took all pain and hurt good willed,
To the maid he was ever thankful, for the doubt and ill-well she killed.
And now the boy could look to a mirror and not think of himself any less,
All thanks to a kindly little lady and her random act of kindness.

He walked the streets and laughed at the men who spat down at his feet,
He knew they’d never love like him, and not long after he did meet,
A man like him, all small and lost, staring strangely at a dove,
And low and behold, just like that, the two men fell in love.

Author's Note

Abi Pelham
I understand if it's not good, this is the first poem I've written in a long time so I don't expect it to be perfect. Constructive criticism would be much appreciated.
