The Haunted Picture Frame

The Haunted Picture Frame

A Poem by Lathen Griffiths

A little something for Halloween/Samhain 🎃👻🎃

Lancelot Humphrey had a table by his bed,
and on it was a picture frame as empty as his head,

he was told the day before he died an image would appear,

amused by such a notion he grinned from ear to ear.

So every night he’d settle down and glance toward the frame,
smile a smile of disbelief and go to sleep again.

On the last day of October, he thought he heard a scream,
he woke up in a cold sweat, he had dreamed an awful dream,

there within the picture frame a ghostly figure lit,
by the candelabra that was standing next to it,

he pinched himself, hoping that his dream was still to blame,

then realised he’d seen his death, in the haunted picture frame.
