The teachings of a tortoise

The teachings of a tortoise

A Poem by Lathen Griffiths

If I, consumed by worry,
Simply wave my life away,
being always in a hurry,
haring, dashing through each day

never ever blue sky pondering,
full of peppy… pithy… praise
bestowed upon companions
who are lost within my gaze

appreciating nothing,
only ever moving on,
and racing through emotions,
-in my own encephalon

Burning bright with light and fury,
making smoke without a flame,
yet becoming tired and weary
long before the final game.

Slowing down with wiser words,
that ask what’s the point of quick?
‘A candle burned both ends,
still only has a single wick.’
