Do you ever watch a movie,
say for instance ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’
and then afterwards, you find that you’ve taken on the persona of the main character?
Well my other half is a huge fan of James Bond and has been for years. I always thought he fancied himself as 007. He's still watching them years later. He must have seen them all half a dozen times.
As for me, well years ago after watching Far From The Madding Crowd, I thought I:d like to be Bathsheba Everdene. Well who wouldn't. Terence Stamp, Peter Finch and Alan Bates were her lead men. The 1967 version was the best.

Isn't that what the magic of the silver screen all about? To take us away, and for a brief moment, leave our boring life behind and live out the adventures of our favorite character. "The monkey's name is Jack."
"Why is the rum always gone? Oh, THAT'S why!" (laughing) I was sort of a pirate before Jack Sparrow was invented or dreamed. As a kid I watched The Buccaneer with Yul Brynner, Charles Boyer and Claire Bloom. Jean Lafitte was my hero ever after. The real historical story of Lafitte is almost even better than the movie. He was pretty long-lived for a pirate and died in battle, we think. He would have been about 42 years old. So, different movie but yes, I relate! Great read. F.
