Amidst The Winter Light

Amidst The Winter Light

A Poem by Lathen Griffiths
"

A cold winters day.

"
The light sings at its most melodious on cold winter mornings;
White frozen shards turn to mist
where the sun croons,
as brave little birds
tweet and chirp in harmony
to keep the cold at bay.

Dulcet tones of warmth
rise like major scales on the crisp soprano air,
whilst icicles, melt amidst the winter light,
returning to water,
at thirty two degrees Fahrenheit;
drip, drip - drop, splash
drip, drip - drop, splash,
drip, drip.

The shadows beneath poplar trees
revolve, inch by inch like sundials,
the cold holds my hands
and amidst the winter light, I watch
as the hours take flight;
each one pulled like a rug
from beneath the feet of December.
