A clever little bird
learned to sing a song of hope
so they set for it a trap
and caught it with a rope
then stuck it in a cage
to hear the song it sings
but it never sang no more
of the hope that freedom brings.
Beautifully written indeed. We as humans often take precious things and destroy it. The bird in this poem was singing marvelously only to be taken by the humans, trapped in a cage, and it no longer sings. Why must we be like this? Destroy everything that is precious? The bird would have sung if it wasn't caged up. Greed and selfish, human can be.

Rather excellent compact poem that says quite a bit and nails its intention. Could obviously relate to many things, but the focus is the basic need for freedom. The rhymes don't feel forced and the poem doesn't stutter. Good work! CD

Yet, another exceptional offering from your skillful pen.
It's said a heart and soul that's free cannot be caged,
but an innocent little feral bird knows not of such philosophical mores.
Alas, humans of all ages can metaphorically be like innocent little birds who've lost their hopes and hearts' singing voices.
Is the bird in your picture a British species of the robin(?) … it's quite lovely.
Lathen, I'm very much enjoying your brand of poetry … it's a pleasure and honor.
Thank you! ⁓ Richard🖌
Oh wow! reading this again, at first I didn't get it, then as I read it again I did! what I can say here that it's the human nature. instead of aiming their own freedom they steal it from the other weaker creations. I am amazed by your hidden cleverness here. well done my friend!

Thank you for your kind words Lightsong, wishing you a wonderful weekend
In a way, the clever little bird could be a metaphor for all of us who live in free societies. If we have continuous freedom, we may find ourselves taking it for granted. If suddenly it is taken away, we may find there is no longer a reason to sing. This one is highly appropriate for the world we live in today.

sometimes when I’m awake
I remember what it’s written.”
