Awakened

Awakened

A Poem by J.K.P.
"

I woke up at 5 a.m. and decided to watch the sunrise for the first time in a while.

"

Silence and shadows

envelop the room.

Clothed in darkness,

chairs and table corners

excitedly greet

unknowing toes and hips.

Restrained swears empower

a few limps to the window.

The glass is cool.

Outside the world is inked

with unmoving silhouettes.

Dormant.

Dreaming.

Waiting.

A small insect lands upon the sill,

making one last venture

around the kitchen, its planet.

The house creaks.

It is sore, weather-beaten.

The clock’s pendulum swings,

resigned to the monotony of its

 wooden prison.

6:25.

There.

A sliver of gold peeks over the horizon

and pierces the night.

The birds scrape their wings across the clouds

and chirp with triumph.

With a great yawn the sun awakes,

teasing the sky with warmth.

Beautiful.

Breathtaking.

A divine performance.

Arms of sunlight stretch to embrace

a hidden world.

It explodes with color.

I love these lines:
"The birds scrape their wings across the clouds
and chirp with triumph.
With a great yawn the sun awakes,
teasing the sky with warmth."

You are very good, my dear. Some have it and some don't. Some must sweat for it and some are naturals. You seem a natural. I am seriously impressed. I will read on.

"Outside the world is inked with unmoving silhouettes." - Beautiful

What a beautiful poem. The time between night and day is magical, spiritual, held in space.. I love it and admire your words inasmuch they describe that period almost miraculously. There are so many phrases, lines, that caught my eye.. all of it to be honest but...

'A sliver of gold peeks over the horizon

and pierces the night.

The birds scrape their wings across the clouds

and chirp with triumph.

With a great yawn the sun awakes,

teasing the sky with warmth.

Beautiful.

Breathtaking.'

And so it your writing breathtaking.

"Ode To The Insomniac"!
Only we who are habitually awake in the pre-dawn hours can know the beauty of the first chirps, the first waft of breeze, the first reticent rays, and deem them worth their price: a hundred stubbed toes, and a thousand hours of re-runs!

I am so glad my good friend Rick requested me to read this.
As Jean said, you are a natural. The words and comparisons flow into the manuscript with amazing ease. I am simply in awe. Very very very very good. I must add this to my favorites.
Keep writing, 'cause if you don't I will send men with sharp pointy knives to force you into it. :D
