Before You Leave

Before You Leave

A Poem by Whiskurz

Before you leave tell me the story
Of the way it used to be
Back before you broke my heart
And you stopped loving me

Before the day you finally knew
This wasn't meant to last
Just let your heart ignore the future
And peer into the past

Before this man you're seeing now
That you say you'll love forever
Back before he came along
And it was you and me together

Before you turned your back on me
And made me feel defeated
Back before you promised your love
Then you went out and cheated

I need to know the reasons why
Before I'm able to grieve
So tell me why you broke my heart
Just once, before you leave

It is so difficult when we don't know why. That lack of knowing can tear as much as the heartbreak of the loss. Most of the time we never really know why. Sometimes it's difficult to pinpoint, and others it's difficult to get the other person to be honest or to take the time to give us what we need to find closure in our hearts. This poem speaks to me, for I know this wanting to know and how painful it can be. Nicely done.

Sad and dreamy loss, the lines convey unanswered questions that nag the mind after someone says its over. Perhaps a tinge of denial and the overwhelming pain - "before you turned your back on me and made me feel defeated" moves one to ask, and keep asking "why?" love was leaving. The last lines confirmed the breaking of heart and the need to know the reason. Sometimes, however, there a re no reasons, Love just fades and changes.
