Where I Can't Go

Where I Can't Go

A Poem by Whiskurz

I said I would follow you anywhere
But you've went where I can't go
Sometimes you love me for who I am
Or a stranger you don't know

Yesterday you remembered our wedding
Today you don't know my name
But I'll love you today like I always have
And I'll know you'll love me the same

Sometimes part of me goes missing
I get lost inside of your mind
But I'll always help you keep looking
'Til there's a piece of me that you find

Today you remembered our grand kids
You smiled and hugged them all tight
When they started to leave, you forgot who they were
Like someone had turned out the light

I said I would follow you anywhere
But you've went where I can't go
Though you finally died, I'll sit by your side
And watch the flowers grow

This reminds me of someone very dear to me who was afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. She is not the one that suffered, but rather it was our family who had to endure through the years of her not knowing us anymore.
These are very sweet words of true love and commitment in which you have captured the true heart of what it means to love unconditionally. He may not be able to go with her, but he stays by her side nonetheless.
