I Don't But

I Don't But

A Poem by LappelDuVide

What would you do if I told you I wanted to die?
Would you think I was being dramatic
Or that it was just a lie?
Awkwardly apathetic
Because the scars keep fading
But the pain persists
And the offer is persuading
So tell me this

What would you do if I told you I wanted to die?
Would you smile and pat my shoulder?
Try to convince me, "It'll be alright""
Feel the air grow colder
Because this smile's a mask
Underneath is my soul
And it's fractured like glass
But. Still. Just, there, imperfectly whole

What would you do if I told you I wanted to die?
Would you honestly care a bit?!
Or gladly say goodbye?
Easily dismiss
Because I've made endless mistakes
I sowed and now I reap
With every choice, I dug my grave
Now it's my turn to bleed

So... What would you say if I told you, I JUST want to die?
But don't worry or anything
I was um... just joking the whole time...

Author's Note

LappelDuVide
I wrote this a long time ago when I was clearly in a very dark place. It is a spoken word so the writing itself may not do it justice. Thank you for reading. Hope you enjoy
