A Choice

A Choice

A Poem by Lanmewmew
"

Just a poem I made 2 years ago

"
A military commander
Who seemed to have power
With weapons and tactics
Strategies to overcome anything

The war started
And everything seemed fine
His plan was working
He felt it was so right

It was full of covert operations
Hidden from the enemy
Hitting at them slowly
Winning the battle secretly

But the commander found
That his plan backfired
And now a choice had to be made
Only two paths for him to choose

One path
To sacrifice the plan he had
Come back to the homefront
Sacrifice his loyal men

Another path
Continue the plan
Lose the homefront
Sacrifice his citizens and families

He had to choose
And he knew what he should do
He chose one path
And let the other go

He ordered
The defense of the homefront
To protect his country
But sacrifice some men

And now there is a standstill
A ceasefire if you call it
No more fighting
Peace at a cost

The commander always thinks
What if he had followed his plan
Until the present
He felt pain losing those men

But a choice had to be made
And he couldn't take the chance
To sacrifice both more men
And homefront to conquer another

It was seen to be the best alternative
The best option from the two
To save both men and homefront
Than risk to lose and suffer

If you ask him today
"Did you regret your plan"
He would say
"No I didn't

It was the best plan I thought of
It gave us so much victory
It was only the circumstances
That stopped it from continuing

The circumstances
Came like lightning
It was there
But was hidden from sight"

He trusted and loved those men
But he had to sacrifice them
To save more
Instead of lose the most

Until today
The commander
Ponders and thinks
What if, just what if.
