A note to selfA Poem by Lane-roeWhen all was lost, you came to me When faith had flown, you came to be When darkness fell and light had fled You crawled onto my single bed
Without a word, you let me know The strength and joy I’d yet to sow You built me up and held my back You nursed me from the cruel attack
You brushed my hair and cleaned my skin You baptised me with love, from sin You taught me what it means to grow To laugh, to cry, to feel, to know
I learned to walk with shaky feet You helped me by singing the beat Of life’s pure joys and crushing woes And teaching me round and round it goes
I learned to stand alone again I learned to be my own best friend I learned to put my faith in me And trust that I know perfectly
That in the mirror, I see me The person I was meant to be That nothing there is wrong or bad That I am scared, not crazy or mad
I taught myself to live again When no-one cared, without a friend I learned to look inside my bones And see the strength that self-love hones
With my strength, my love and light The darkness faded from my sight I learned to see the good once more And love myself from skin to core © 2012 Lane-roeReviews
