Once I saw a bird, and I thought it rather fine Till it hopped right down my arm, and then drank near all my wine. I shoo'ed it with my hand, and it made a funny sound But then I made a hoot, and it fell right to the ground.
Sitting on its rump, it looked quite a funny bird Then it rolled onto its side, and then looked even more absurd. As I started laughing, it gave me quite a glare Indeed, it looked so frightening, that I shut my mouth right there.
As it hopped onto the window, and made a pompous caw My cat, whose name is Oscar, hit it with his paw. The bird shrieked in fright and flew away, out of reach But my Oscar merely smiled, with a purr meant to beseech.
The bird was far too clever, and frowned down from afar But my Oscar was contented, and purred just like a car. I smiled then with glee as I settled in my chair For the bird would not climb down, with such a cat sitting right there.
My goodness, you are freakin' cute!! lol I love this poem. I had written a few very serious poems, but when I tried my hand at "lighter" ones, such as this, I found them to be a lot of fun to write. So cute the story you tell, too. Was THIS story a real story and put to poem by you, Lane? *kisses cheek* Mark has achieved the smile he was hoping to bear and feel at the end of so tough a week, and finds that Lane...... without her knowing of this, sometimes...... provides this for him!! Mark thinks you are adorable and hopes that even if you do not stay in some sort of contact with him, that you write more short stories and poems for EVERYONE to enjoy!! I love the feeling that I am possibly watching the real life version of Sylvester go after Tweety!! : ) "I Taw a Putty Tat"..... Beautiful Lane. xoxo -Your Mark
I love how simple and amusing this poem is. You have great words and structure here. The last stanza was my favorite, setting it up so that the bird would be too frightened to come back. Great poem :)
