Women of WyrdA Poem by Cate WinterFor my sisters.
Lady of yarrow and sparrowsong,
Rowan, amanita. Coal smoulder and river’s strength, Gold, green, and scarlet cloaking you as you call up the fires slumbering in every soul. Realm of flame and sea, Solstice to Samhain. Fingertips grazed across trees and rocks call life to spring forth anew Weaving wonder and light, bringing life into being Green-gold light and heartsong coursing through vein and cambium, amber and bloodstone. Butterfly Of crimson and amethyst, Eyes that hold the memory of ten thousand years of starlight Earth and rain are yours, dear heart. Rich loam crumbled through hands blessed with song Fairy of tree and fox, starling starfire Raindancer, seed-singer. Yours are spring buds and torrential downpours, Terpsichore of summer sun-showers Willow, fern, and chamomile, carnelian, rosin. Winds and sky are mine, Stormsinger. Words flung into gale and squall Carried on the backs of wren and raven, In the beaks and claws of peregrines. Hands a balm to cool and heal the broken. Realm of dove grey, blue and fawn, Oak, ash, and yew Bare branches silhouetted against silvered sky, ripe with snow Bare earth trembling with the promise of Life renewed. Feldspar, obsidian, frozen moonlight. This is we, Sisters three. © 2010 Cate Winter
