Ripples

By: Lalli

I can see passed your Mardi Gras mask of happiness

Your lack of confidence.

So right now I reach out to your distraught soul

I ask that you please let me wrap my arms around so you may feel the warmth of my embrace

Because I want to know why you hide behind closed doors

Why every time I look at you

Your face exudes distress

I want to excavate to the center of your pain

Because I desire to comprehend the reasons behind your tainted eyes

I want to dig inside to the torment of what you’re afraid to say

Of what your body speaks subconsciously through the expressions on your face

I want to know, yet I know that the truth hurts

And I’m unsure

That the knowledge of what you’ve seen may cause the same anguish inside of me

It may place a greater weight than seven anchors on my heart

My life might change from your misfortunes

But I do not believe you should bare this on your own

And if my knowing

Is for no other reason then for you to know you’re not alone

Then let me say to you

I am willing to share in your untold burden

Because I want to know the unknown reasons why your heart’s grown ten-fold applying pressure to your throat

I want to be the refreshment to a parched soul

I want to show you that there is still good in this world

And if the only way you can believe me is through my actions

Let’s go back then

Back to when I offered my ear to a stranger and my shoulder to comfort

When I approached you with arms wide open and I asked you for a hug

I want you to understand that, that hug was not for me

It was because I could feel the sorrow of your energy

As I watched the hesitation of your interactions

As I noticed the uncertain caution of your gestures

But mainly it was when I stared directly into your eyes and witnessed you crying inside

As I tried to gaze through the window of your soul and saw its pane was smeared with your tears

But I want to show you that I care

Because I know how it felt when a stranger cared for me

And the impact it had on the rest of my life

Is beyond valuation or any price

So here I am - willing to barter

I want to make an exchange

And what I ask, I know may not be easy

Since you’ve managed to contain the suffering internally

Imprisoned behind a fortress of falsely numb facades

Know that I will not judge

I promise I will only listen

And I promise that when you speak
there will be an unfamiliar sensation

As you free yourself from the chaos of emotional trauma so that no more damage can be done

You will begin to heal, wounds will turn to scars and scars will fade unnoticed

It will be during this moment that you will understand why I wanted to be there for a stranger

Because my kindness will have touched you

A seed will have been planted and a garden you will sow

Because at this point you’ll know how great it feels when someone cares

Whether you know them or you don’t

And all I ask is that you’ll do the same for someone else who visibly needs the help

So I encourage you

To drop

The rock

In the pond

And see your reflection in the ripple

Those last four lines could have been the whole poem in itself. The whole thing is great and a wonderful message for everyone, but those last four lines sum it all up in a nutshell. To be honest, wish I had put those same lines together. Brilliant. I think you might like my piece "A Silent Grace". Something similiar. Well done.

Phenomenal writing with a beautiful message, this is such an uplifting poem with so much to learn from. The message of being able to surrender to anothers pain with such a selfless act speaks volumes. What kindness a stranger can show. These words really hit me hard and the emotions conveyed in your writing are so very real. The power of simply taking the time to care and look beyond appearances into a tournmented past is truely a beautiful gift. The last few lines in the poem proved almost a revelation to me,
"So I encourage you

To drop

The rock

In the pond

And see your reflection in the ripple"
There is so much inherent philosophy in those few simple words. Once again amazing poetry, thank you for the read request.

Its been a while since I've been back on WC and to find this waiting for me made me happy. I'm not going to fluff up the review but tell you straight up. It hit me...hard. Something I've been dealing with for some time is being vulnerable with my hurt and worth-this gave me an emotion-shock if that makes sense. Kind of chocked up to be honest...thanks lalli again...Because I can honestly say I've felt this pieces emotion for the last 6 months of my life.

"But mainly it was when I stared directly into your eyes and witnessed you crying inside
/As I tried to gaze through the window of your soul and saw its pane was smeared with your tears/
But I want to show you that I care"

The second line especailly...I just know what its like to have someone look at you like that, and its really something that'll shake you up. when humans look deeper and find something else. Its...raw if I could use any word.

I can't quite express what to say in gratitude other than a heartfelt thank you, and if I could, I'd give you a hug-which is sometimes the biggest expressions of love.

Wow, truly an inspirational read! You write with wisdom and depth that reaches the soul. I love this line....Imprisoned behind a fortress of falsely numb facades...it speaks volumes. The last few lines end this strong. A beautifully touching write!

There is only ONE BEING.

All the rest is an oscillation of figure and ground, contraction/release, egoity/universality.

Inspiration is alignment with a priori Source. We are all phantoms of appearance.

As one who's been on both sides of the ball, suffering and inspiration, I aver that CONSCIOUSNESS ITSELF is the most reliable "cure" for the illusory highs and lows of the human condition.

You are skillfully empathic, I am merely drawn to more radically point out that beyond the ripples and reflections is the Mystery of the pond itself. Awareness is a hi-wire of compassion and fierce rebuttal of chronic illusions.

There is no "other."

Imprisoned behind a fortress of falsely numb facades

Perhaps the most profound statement I've ever seen within a poem. Very well done!
