Humbled

Humbled

A Poem by Lalli

The strongest, the most cunning and open-minded can not avoid the inevitable consequences of our actions

Humbled

By Lalli

I’m tough as the bull-rider at the rodeo

I’m ruff rydin’ on a ghetto road in a low-rider

I’m high steppin’ hurdles in a dead heat at a track meet leapin’ over obstacles in a heartbeat

I’m able-bodied, but I have my soft spots

I’m ductile with my views because I thrive for maturity

I’ve been divinely assigned to rhyme

But my tongue’s tied because I’m ahead of my mind

And at times I may be a blind bat

But I’m on the attack in a hunt to find the correct path

I’m young

But wiser than my age

I flipped through the pages of life so now I’m dumbfounded and well-rounded

Bound by the limitless potential available for success

Unless

My testosterone gets in the way

But I learned from havin’ three sisters

That no mister can ever hit her and never let sex dictate your commitment to your relationship

Since I’ve been that selfish prick, with a selfish dick

Who wanted nothing more than to stick a so-called selfish b***h

Convinced that I could see clearly through clouded vision

Only to be introduced to the humility of a fool

The tool to dull to make intricate incisions

Because cutting without precision only leads to making poor decisions

But mistakes are made

And until consequence is paid in full

we’ll keep tryin’ to rearrange the rules to work to the benefit of our desires

only to find out that the re-wire could not be done

Shunned by the strength of the prodigal son

It’s a reminder

That no one

No matter how strong or brave they think they are

No matter how broadminded they are to what they can conceive

No matter how invincible they believe themselves to be

There is no escape

From the inevitable humbling fate---of repercussion

IT'S TOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too much wordplay!!!!!!!!!! Your doubled up rhyme scheme is a throwback to Rakim and Kane! It's too dope!!!!! I can't do this anymore in poetry only because I lose so many people, and I hope this doesn't go over too many people's head, but this was too dope!!

I'm not sure what your ambitions are with your skill, but you'd be one of my favorite MCs and you're definitely my favorite "Wordsmith"!

And see? I completely forgot about the message you conveyed here! And you did it very well! That's the problem with great wordsmiths!! You get so caught up in the rhyme scheme, that the message sometimes can get lost. Almost like when I was watching Sarah Palin! I was so caught up with how much I wanted to do her, that I didn't know what her feelings on foreign policy were about! But the message here was great as well! Very dope sir!

the wordplay is something, Lalli....but i didn't miss the message you were trying to get across. we are all responsible for our actions and sometimes the repercussions of those actions are a high price to pay. to learn from it and move on is what is important....but on that same note, some never learn and that is the shame of it all.

you haven't lost you touch, i can say that for you...you still amaze with your words :) glad you're back, my friend.

Always,

Amanda

I did enjoy this Lalli! It had such a beat to it and as I read it I could imagine
you reciting this out loud to an audience. You are indeed a wonderful 'wordsmith'.

Awesome work my friend, full of life.... simply stunning! ~ Helena

I didn't get the title until my second read through and I realized that it is very much about being humbled. You are a wizard of words and I very much enjoyed reading this work.
