The Vintage of HumanityA Poem by LalliThere is still hope. It will take a lot of work but I will never lose faith in humanity no matter how corrupt or destructive we may act. Light will always overpower the darkness. The Vintage of Humanity
I think we can do better I think we can restore the vintage from this wreckage Unless… You like what you see Unless… You choose to look past it, unwilling to recognize the
devastation in front of you The truth is Humanity faces it’s toughest adversary Incapable of recognizing it’s own reflection The darkness of itself blurs into an unrecognizable silhouette
identified as a threat Like multiple sclerosis cells We’ve turned on ourselves Taken aside from white light this blood count is too high We need compassion and empathy Its nauseating to see the intolerance and judgment weaken our abilities like the
poison of chemo-therapy Overwhelmed, I’m trying to look at new skies Because the stars sparkle in greater company at 30,000 feet Where the only clouds in sight are light-years away between
galaxies My star gazing escape serves as meditation to instill
calmness of mind So I can search for wisdom from the eagle eye sight of our
ancestors The Milky Way electrifies contemplation about how
often beauty or pain escapes my view Like the corneal filtration of what I allow to enter my mind And I don’t want to live blind anymore I don’t want to ignore the pain endlessly gnawing at my
conscience I no longer want to believe my dented fender is freshly
painted and smooth No longer in a coma I've awoken from this negligent accident and I have
questions about what’s happened along the path from then to now I’m wondering when honor was steam-rolled into our highways
over native lands When the cellular level of our integrity fell to the plague
of viral greed Poorly manufactured for wholesale upon a financial industry When prescription pills influenced blame, as he fingered-out
responsibility as the culprit While logic was thrown out of our judicial system for disorderly
conduct Or how about when social media life lined faceless
relationships spawning generations who hide behind a screen Where fingertips spew the hatred that our cowardly lips
could not speak Chapped we crack tasteless jokes rationalizing cruelty for
the sake of…humor? This society is accelerating through school zone disasters at
unreasonable and imprudent speeds We aren’t even trying to slow down But I see the signs and I’m pumping the brakes My voice sounds the alarm We are falling stars from the skies and the night is turning
pitch black Ignorantly we stare into the atmosphere Unaware, that we are trapped cold in the snow globe of
catastrophe Carelessly confined comfortably in our own little worlds
that are about to be shaken and flipped upside down This is unsettling, Like the fault line about to fall away The earthquake that turned grassland prairies into mountains I can feel the vibrations of its rumble in the strings of my
soul And I’m sure you can too, If you intuitively listen to your spirit and resonate in
response to its truth As a species, humanity excels with superiority over the
animal kingdom Yet, we act like animals Giving into our urges without thought or care of consequence We conquer for power and pleasure We impulsively lie, cheat, and steal to obtain desires, not
necessities We act without thinking but act as if we were thinking But if this were true Then STD’s wouldn’t be multiplying exponentially The disintegration of our ozone would have convinced us to
go green decades ago and A worldwide failing economy wouldn’t threaten poverty with an
even greater depression I think we can do better I think we come together if we actually tried Without prejudice, judgment, or spite We need to unite I know this message is not original or unique But I believe repetition increases the chances that this
time This time iIt won’t fall upon deaf ears Let our actions no matter how small they may be serve as a
reminder That every ant leaves a scent of hope for the others to find
their way home We are stronger in numbers It’s going to take a collective effort to figure out how to
pull the dents out of this wreckage And restore this vintage into showroom quality Otherwise, I fear the alternative is a truth that most of us
