Denser

DENSER

"Slow down Ronald!" My younger brother shouted. "We are not in a marathon."

My brother, Joe; and I had been running for about twenty minutes. We were exhausted. There wasn't any dog behind us, nor a monster or a zombie. The day was hot and our town's poor transport service had left us with just one option.

What a big day it was for me. My favorite actor Steve Denser was in our town. He is way more than just an actor for me. I follow his style, the way he dances, the way he walks, the way he talks. I just try to be like him.

This was the second time I was about to see him. Things had gone completely strange last time. I had gotten his autograph, I remember, he had signed my autograph book with a smile. But when I got home, there was no autograph! That was a blow, a hard blow. My mind still spins when I think about it.

My brother, Joe, was not a big fan of Denser. He doesn't like movies. So this was more like a punishment for him. Something was making us run. In my case, it was adrenalin and in Joe's case, it was me.

"I can't run anymore." Joe finally declared.

"Who cares." I said. There are some benefits of being an elder brother. "Hurry or we'll miss the shoot."

"I am going back." Joe stopped.

I had no time to change his mind. I kept running.

Thirty minutes of struggle made me reach my destination. There were few people around. Steve Denser has a very little amount of fans. He is only four movies old.

At last, he came with his team. He was about thirty feet from me. The real Steve Denser. He was 6 feet tall. I saw the whole shoot. I must have been there for about five hours. The shoot ended and he finally signed my autograph book. So happy I was!

"This life... this life... this life is a b***h!" I came home singing. This is Denser's favorite song, and mine, too.

"Where were you the whole day?" Mom asked.

"Guess what... Steve Denser was in our town! And he signed my autograph book!" I exclaimed.

Mom made a face. Nobody in our house was his fan.

"Wait a minute. I'll show you." I said.

I opened the autograph book and looked for that treasure. Denser had signed on some random page. I checked every page. Once, Twice, thrice. There was no autograph! I checked six more times, each page... thoroughly.

"This is impossible!" I said, more to myself than to my mom. Tears rolled down my face.
"Go to your room Ronald." My mom said. She was barely bothered with me.

I locked myself in my room sat on my bed and began to cry. That had happened for the second time! Second time! I had thousands of thoughts running through my mind.

"This is something supernatural." I told myself. "Something is wrong, seriously wrong. Denser had signed my book. Yes he had."

My parents don't believe in after life. There was no way I could share all of this with my parents. I had lost a treasure... again! But that was not bothering me much. I had started thinking beyond the laws of nature. I cried for hours and then... I slept.

I woke up at 11 P.M. I heard someone talking. My father was home. My parents were talking about me. I came out of my room and tried to hear them from a distance.

"Ronald's behavior is getting worse." My mother complaint to my father.

"What now?" My father asked.

"He left the house this morning Screaming, 'Steve's in our town!'"

"Oh Jesus... not again!" My father said and sighed.

My mother began to cry.

"Things will be alright dear. That was a blow to him."

"He is our only son." My mother said. "I want him to be normal."

"Dr. Andrew had said that he would be the same Ronald in a year."

"A year! Steve Denser has been dead for more than two years! Don't you know?"

"I know... I know. We'll try to explain to him again tomorrow. Jesus's with us. Its late, lets sleep now."

"Good night, dear."

"Good night. May god bless our only son."

I returned to my room. My parents talk stupid. I mean, that's crazy. One moment my mom had been crying. And then, she said 'good night'. How can the night go good, if you cry before going to bed.

Anyway, six months have passed. My parents say that I am improving. Liars they are! I am still an average in studies. Well, the great news is, Steve Denser is going to be in our town again next month. This time, I'll be carrying the best autograph book and an incredible pen. My brother Joe has a pen worth one hundred dollars. I'll borrow that pen from him. "Will you give me that pen Joe? Will you?"
