Don't Look for Shadows

I know you thought I was the right one.

That I was something worth fighting for.

But I'm not.

I'm just a shadow of that.

And I wish you could see that.

I never wanted to hurt you.

I should never have let you get so close.

For awhile there, you actually had me believing I could do this.

That I could find something with you.

But you were wrong.

As was I.

Still I cannot hurt you.

I can't even say that I want you to go.

I can see your sorrow if I just close my eyes.

And I don't want that.

So, I won't say anything.

I will just disappear.

Like the ghost of an impossible future.

Like a memory.

Just a bad dream.

Drifting in the waves of life.

I know it will hurt, and you'll wonder if you did anything wrong.

You didn't, and you know you didn't.

But you should just forget.

It will be better if you do.

Don't try to find a shadow

that's already gone.

I mean I don't usually write poetry, and it has no rhyme scheme so I don't think it's great at all.
