TEARS AT LC'S

TEARS AT LC'S

A Poem by Lafayette

I HELD YOU FOR THREE DAYS AND NIGHTS WHILE YOU CRIED OVER A DEAD LOVER

I LOVED YOU MORE THAN ANY BEFORE IN THAT MOMENT OR SINCE OUR GOODBYE

HERE IN THESE LAST DAYS OF MY OWN LIFE, TEARS FINDING ME IN RAIN-LESS WALKS ACROSS BURNT ROADS IN A THOUSAND CITIES

YOUR FACE REACHES ME IN MY DEEPEST SLEEPLESS NIGHTS WHEN DREAMING

IT IS A LOVE LIKE NO OTHER, IT IS OF YOU, YOUR FINGERS UPON MY HEART, THAT HUNTS MY EVERY WAKEN HOUR

OH HOW IS IT THAT ON A DIRT ROAD IN A FAR AWAY TOWN I COULD NOT SAVE MY LIFE

I COULD NOT FIND THE WORDS TO TELL YOU, TO HOLD THE MOMENT, TO STOP TIME, FOR YOU TO SEE ALL I AM IS YOU

ALL I WOULD EVER LOVE WOULD BE WRAPPED IN YOU

ALL I EVER WANTED WAS YOU

OF THIS I HATE MYSELF, FOR IN NOT FALLING TO MY KNEES, FOR NOT SAYING HOLD ME THIS LIFETIME

FOR NOT REACHING OUT FOR YOUR LIPS, FOR A LAST KISS IN THIS DEATHLESS LIFE, ONCE YOU TURN TO GO

FOR NOT TELLING YOU, MY WORLD IS DEAD WITHOUT YOUR LOVE, WITHOUT YOUR EYES FINDING MY SPIRIT SEARCHING, OR YOUR HAND FINDING MINE LOST IN MOONLESS FOREST, I AM LOST

AND THAT IN ALL MY FOREVER'S, I WOULD LOOK FOR ONLY YOU, YOUR EYES, YOUR LIPS, YOU

THAT I WOULD NEED YOU TO FIND ME ONCE MORE ON SNOW FILLED NIGHTS ALONG OUR OCEAN BLACK WAVES SINGING SONGS OF OLD

OR THAT I WOULD NEED YOU TO LOVE ME IN THE STILLNESS OF FOREVER

WHERE WE FIRST MET IN LIFE'S' DANCE, AND FELL INTO EACH OTHER'S SOUL...

Well, no one can say this one lacks for feeling. I have seldom seen such a profound expression of love heretofore on this site. The speaker claims to be baring his heart in his last days, regretting he said nothing sooner. The last three stanzas are especially piercing. Tragic love is often the most moving type.
