The Leaving BalladA Poem by JessicaRose
I left the frosty New York skyline
on crystalline mornings. I couldn't handle the clarity, didn't want it. I knew there was no place for me: enmeshed in structure, cold concrete, humid air - suffocating and cloying. So I left in search of a place as wile as my spirit. I needed the possibility of the earth moving under my feet, waves coming in quick and washing me out to sea, the chance of fire immolating me in my bed. I needed the possibility of waking to a world that wasn't the one I was lulled to sleep by. I needed the possibility of sudden, utter calamity to keep my soul utterly calm.
