Ode to Goodbye

Ode to Goodbye

A Poem by JessicaRose

I inspected you. It was a cataloging,
like an animal in the wild.
I noted the spark in your eye
when my gaze found yours across the room.
The way your hand felt mine reaching,
and instinctively closed the gap.
The kiss on the forehead. Deep,
and pressing, almost as if it were a need
to get closer.
The slump of your shoulders,
disappointment dragging them down.
The brave smile, corners drooping ever so slightly.

I know. I know, but I won't say.

I take your reaction and wear it as
my own.
I know you're not much for goodbyes.
Til next time, then.
