AnnoyanceA Chapter by Darl1ng N1kk1The minute the bell rang, everyone leapt out of their seats. The only people actually vacating the room, however, were the boys. Each one of the girls seemed to be propelled by a magnet to James. Gwen was drawn into the circus unwillingly, the fawning Barbies all pushing forward in their attempts to catch a glimpse of their new golden god. Unable to reach the door through the crowd, Gwen was forced to endure this fresh hell. Perfect, just what we need, yet another idiot for the clones to drool over. Folding her arms across her chest, Gwen heaved a heavy sigh. Glancing up, she noticed her display of disgust had drawn attention from not only a few of the girls (who simply glared back in her direction before gluing their eyes back on James) but Pretty Boy himself was staring back. Fighting the urge to look at her sneakers, Gwen shot daggers at him. She held his gaze as long as she could muster up the courage. She felt she had done her duty as a non-drone and was feeling smug…that is until she realized he was smiling at her. That damn smug grin of his had returned. The way the right side of his lip curled up was so obnoxious it was almost obscene. Gwen was taken so off guard by this return that she abruptly turned away, aiming for the exit…only to smack right into the wall. Slightly dazed, Gwen regained her composure enough to reach the door without further problems. She just wished she couldn’t hear that ridiculous, birdlike squawking. Her face reddening, she shuffled to her locker. Trying to squelch her humiliation, Gwen didn’t even hear the rapid footsteps behind her. “That was quite a hit you just took.” Without bothering to turn to acknowledge him, Gwen grabbed her books and tried to escape to her next class. James side-stepped in front of her, blocking her exit. Looking up, she noticed the smirk she wished she could erase from that perfect face. “Get out of my way.” Much to her surprise, the smirk vanished. Looking suddenly serious, James leaned forward and grabbed her by the shoulders. Gwen was too stunned to move. Fury raced through her but before she could protest, James began to stare fixedly at her forehead. “What are you - ?” “Shhh! I want to make sure you’re ok.” “Wha-? I’m fine! Get off me!” She tried to shrug him off, but he simply held her tighter, making it look entirely effortless and causing her to feel like a weakling. Maybe I should consider doing more than just yoga… “Just stand still a moment. Yes, I think it’s just going to bruise slightly. Your hair should conceal it nicely, so no need to worry about any embarrassing mark.” Releasing her shoulders, he stood back and looked her in the eyes triumphantly. She just stared back in disbelief. Unable to form a coherent thought, let alone a sentence that would be worthy of telling this lunatic off, Gwen just shouldered past him. It was a few seconds before she realized her classroom was the other way. She couldn’t help but notice that the loathsome smirk had returned. Giving him a death stare that would make Darth Vader shrivel up with fear, Gwen did an about-face. His eyes never left her as she passed, seemingly immune to her hate. “You’re welcome,” he said. “Thank you,” she mumbled in reply, before she could stop herself. Berating her good upbringing, Gwen slammed her eyes shut in frustration. Why did I say thank you?! He doesn’t deserve my thanks, he didn’t even do anything! The remainder of her thoughts as she entered her classroom consisted of a slur of obscenities that would make a sailor blush. As she took her place in her designated seat, Gwen had to mentally do her yoga breathing. Good thoughts in, bad thoughts out… © 2010 Darl1ng N1kk1Reviews
