Mourning Toes

What bodes this summer's end
What power strips away
Takes my beloved flip flops
To their undesired grave?

Are neutrals to adorn my toes
Hiding oriental red nails as well
Those hippie rainbow flops
Flipped the world a vibrant bird!

How I love them still
I'll mourn them when it snows
I'll test each generation for reincarnation
In every shoe shop from here to Savannah

And if I find them again
Summer will return with them
Flip flops decorating and matching
My rainbow toes, bonnet and shades.

This is very well written and just plain cute. With old, screwed-up feet, I no longer wear flip-flops, but I sure used to. As strange as it may seem, I remember a long ago time when there were no flip-flops. Can you imagine?
