Poetess

Poetess

A Poem by Tricia Pattinson

Poetess
by Tricia Pattinson

Knocking words from my tree
Planted for next they spring
Into the great heart of dirt
There natural order takes root

The stars may watch
The Moon may call
I may watch the words crawling
As they watch me in return

But they that once were mine
Have roots for seeking sustenance
Hunting air and dirt for strength to be
To suit themselves with truth's hairiness tweed

The poems that grow
Came from my tree
But not of me
Not of me

The poems that lift the world
Come from the fertility of dirt
Where worms do all the work
I was just the tree that tossed them
