She Wouldn't Look At Anyone

She Wouldn't Look At Anyone

A Poem by Tricia Pattinson

She Wouldn't Look At Anyone
by Tricia Pattinson

Did you see the little girl?
She stared at the sky or the ground
Never in your eyes or near your ears

Did you see her wings after the mortar came?
Her freedom by barrage and torn-adieu
Her eyes stared fixedly at the sky - not you

Her little face not yet marked by frown or smile
Her innocence sacrificed in war's ruthless strike
Like the soldiers following - leading - ground down

Eyes may show the strength of the soul
Are our eyes now too monstrous to behold?
Are our ears impaled - scary for that little one?

War's biatches giving birth -
Hell hounds - destroyers of worlds
Destroyers of the innocence in ourselves

Truly poetic. I really liked the ending lines
"War's biatches giving birth -
Hell hounds - destroyers of worlds
Destroyers of the innocence in ourselves"

we destroy our own innocence. Thank you for sharing, very intriguing poem
