What a solitary world this isA Poem by Emily ShakespeareA poem written within an hour one morning when I was in quite a dark state of mind. What a solitary world this. Winds I hear toss and turn Outside. They long to break in and Wrap their cold blows about me, To stop me from any escape from Loneliness. I hear voices around me, The tittle tattle of talk close by, Yet, so far and distant from this Solitary existence. I wonder If I am fated to this life, That you three fates, who took Juliet and her love Romeo to their Deaths, will force me to an always Lonely life. What cold words they are, Lonely and Solitary, devoid of any Warmth or Feeling. I feel I am Subjected to Emily's words Desolate, Anguish, and almost Despair. What beautiful words they are, Yet I would not wish to feel them. I would not wish to feel For one moment like I do. Lost and devoid of strength, Hope, too, is nearly gone, for I have No strength left to grasp on to it. Before my mind's eye, I see a Butterfly. How delicate a creature, Yet I see broken wings: she is Trapped. No escape can she make Out of the Isolation she is Caught in. Isolation, another Cold word. To feel so weak, Limpid, unable to reach out To any Life out there. The poor Lady, what she must have Suffered in her isolated Tower, Only hearing, and in her mirror, Seeing, a world of life pass by.
