Why Can't I Be Like Everybody Else?

Why Can't I Be Like Everybody Else?

A Poem by Ciara Beth

Why can't I be like everybody else?
Because I'm not mediocre. Be cause I won't settle for the mundane.
With forever to live
And forever to learn
I can't tie myself down just yet.

What is everyone else?
They're happily stuck with thorns in the flesh.
They parade the facade of marital bliss.
They settle for the best this imperfect world can offer.

I can't be like everyone else.
I tried.
And failed.
I'm made of sterner stuff.
I won't fit the mold.

That's why I have to do do this.
It'll hurt him,
But it'll hurt worse if I pretend if I'm just like everybody else.
I'm not average.
I'm not mediocre.
I don't have to settle,
Because I like being free.
