No Surprise

No Surprise

A Poem by Brittni

I was at your door, out in the cold.

You told me 11:30, not a second late.

I reach up and knock, heart in my throat.

I was excited, yet oh so scared.

You said it was important, this talk.

It was about our friendship, our future.

I go to the window, just to peek.

To see if you were there, or not.

I saw her, wearing your shirt.

The one I bought you, the red one.

Her legs around your waist, your head back.

Was this a joke, a sick and disgusting trick?

Or was this your own way of trying to get answers?

I left, got into my car without another thought.

I should be mad, or upset and crying.

In my car, I dialed your phone.

Knowing you wouldn't answer, I waited.

The little beep was in my ear, your voicemail.

All I could say, the two little words.

The tone in my voice should have said it all.

I let out a breath and said, "No Surprise"

Very interesting and unexpected. I am hoping this is not a real life scenario that your heart had to endure.

this is the kind of poetry i dig the most, honest and bare and true, something we can all relate to, the things in life that can reach such profundity.

Well it was a friendship but I know how how it feels to feel so betrayed and let down by all your dreams and desires ruined. J'adore!

Wow.. you did well by not going in there and killing both of them. lol I hope this is not a real incident but life is full of cruel jokes. This read very smoothly and the emotions are felt.

I like poems that are stories, not abstract, and I like the way you tell this story, and the way you present it as a poem ( It would be a good piece of prose too) A sad story, hopefully not true, and a good piece of literature.
