Your Heart Was Your First Lover

Your Heart Was Your First Lover

A Poem by Ashley Blair

Surrender your heart and I’ll give you my lungs
In the form of a hungry kiss
So come closer before I become ashes in your veins
I swear on the god that I almost don’t believe in I’m not insane
I just want you.
All of you.
Your skin against mine is the only elaboration I need
Wrap your soul around my body and breathe in me.
I’m not afraid of heights when I’m on my tippy toes to peck your cheek
Or when we’re lying down together getting high on hormones
When your beckoning voice makes me weak
My soul is at risk because of the demons I play with
And could be fractured by your every word
I’m not a ticking time bomb but the single bullet
That you’ll curse for either letting it go by
Or letting it embed in the heart
That thought
It knew
Better
