Morning Light

Morning Light

A Poem by Ashley Blair

Night won't carry on forever
It's not the cold outside that's numbing you
It's the comfort you're afraid to lose
I dare you to fall asleep
And wake up remembering your wild dreams
That scared the hell out of you
But you're still intrigued enough
To talk about them
Don't throw those empty sheets over your face
And fall back asleep because your nightmares
Aren't as terrifying as reality
You're the one who paints those pictures
Of the inky blue night sky
That you wish you could swim in
With the stars burning tiny holes in your body
Because you think that it's worth all of the pain
To have beauty make you feel beautiful
So you can become a part of their radiance.
You rage against the dying of night
But it's not the fading morning light
That makes you want to die.

Vivid imagery of the night created, such great work. These three line really held onto my smile.

Don't throw those empty sheets over your face
And fall back asleep because your nightmares
Aren't as terrifying as reality
