An Unloved Creation

An Unloved Creation

A Poem by Ashley Blair

Electricity coursing through dull veins
Singed hair dancing in the wind
Trees bowing down to their dominatrix
She'll never feel their love again.
How did the earth become her slave,
When they started off as friends,
She loved the ground mercilessly,
Pulling it's roots apart until they were dead.

The only release that the trees felt,
Was the rush of the the gentle wind,
It tenderly lifted their leaves up,
And when parting gave them a kiss.

She never knew how their branches felt,
With birds softly landing with grace,
Building lives only to die,
While making a permanent home in the sky.
They walked with kindness and would tread lightly on the trees' frame,
Taking care of creation,
Knowing they were one of the same.

She never knew what they could feel,
Always longing for an escape,
But all she could do was pull and break,
Until that creature crumbled away.

Ashes to ashes.
Dust to dust.
The last question on her lips was "Why?"
She returned to the ground that she loved too desperately,
Her broken wings were never made to fly.
