The Glass StigmaA Poem by LadyAnn68A rocoveree alcoholic attends a party~The Glass Stigma The party roared in the other room She poured some iced honey tea Into a long-stemmed crystal wine glass She thought to herself, “Let’s just see…” She was an alcoholic with the stigma very known She was new to the song and dance of recovery She looked in the mirror and said to herself, “Will anyone see the recovered me?” She had lost the trust of her family She had lost the trust of her best friend She had misguided herself into believing Those relationships would never end So now was a great test and judgment Could she walk through that party room and blend? As she carried the glass that looked like wine She would force this stigma to mend All heads turned as she walked in All eyes on the glass not her face Eyes shifting to look at her with a smile With enough contempt to permeate their disgrace She was such a beautiful young woman All dressed up in the purity of white lace But nothing could take away that stigma “The glass of an alcoholic can’t be replaced” She stood in the middle of that room Saying aloud, “I’d like to make a toast” As they watched breathlessly for her to fall Couldn’t wait to laugh at her drunken boast Instead with sparkle and life in her eyes Saying, “Recovery is where alcoholics can coast… She gave thanks to family, best friend and more Lifting her wine glass, “and honey tea is the utmost!” LET RECOVERY BE YOUR NEW STIGMA! THEY WILL RESPECT YOU NO MATTER WHAT GLASS YOU HAVE! IT IS WHAT’S IN IT AND YOU THAT WILL MAKE THE STIGMA DIFFERENCE! ©LadyAnn Graham-Gilreath Jan 15, 2017 © 2017 LadyAnn68 |
