Relapsing, Episode 6

Sex classes at the quarantine facility

Learn about rubbers, disease, and susceptibility

Father disowns refusing admittance to the house

Alone now feeling like a wild field mouse

Nothing but the clothes on your back

Some canned foods, $100 in your backpack

Call the dealer walk long roads to meet

You new home now, the open streets

Needed all the money for drugs to touch

Can’t get a room not nearly enough

Looking in the trees and bushes to find

Places to rest, get high, lose your mind

Barefoot, last night sold your shoes

No money, no food, no friends, just blues

Tears wondering why you were born

Stinking, filthy, clothes tattered and torn

Crying becomes a daily routine of life

Searching for relief, get high all night

Police don’t even bother you anymore

Too far down even they’ve closed their doors

For the first time you suddenly think of jail

At least you could sleep, eat, and get well

Ignoring you the dealers have learned

Finally reached the place of no return

75 pounds lost looking like a ghost

Police found you face down in mud like most

Turning you over you looked up at the sky

Beseeching God to explain to you… why

Muddy, thirsty, starving, and beat

Walked many miles to NA with bloodied feet

Shocked faces stare for a long moment or so

Funny thing is ... you don’t want to go

Tears spilling scared forcing yourself to say

“Hello, I’m an addict, can even God save me today”

Applause burst out loud was the sound

Everyone jumped up hugging you as they surround

Just a sleeping bag 2 years at night you lay

With all your heart read the Word and pray

“God I humbly surrender to your great hand,

Do with me as you will, it’s all your plan”

Coming in a week your earned medallion for one year

Never admitting to anyone that you still fear

Sponsor picks you up the day has arrived

Telling you there is a very special surprise

As you accept the medallion your heart fills with light

But tears fly from your cheeks at the sight

Parents made their appearance you had to run

Father eye to eye says, “Congratulations, my son"....

"COME HOME!”

The story sad and strong in the poem. You create bad visions and bad places. I like the honest tone. You know the words are non-fiction. The story and book is powerful. Keep reading dear friend.
