Relapsing, Episode 3

It has been a while since court

No outward change of any sort

Trying now to borrow dad’s car

Headed for the drug-hole bar

Start by ordering a double drink

In the bathroom lines off the sink

Already feeling the glamorous rush

Attend your hair with a quick brush

Head out to sit on the bar stool

Feeling you are just super cool

Nothing could ruin this very night

You’re in control; you know you’re right

A couple of hours have passed by

You’re out of cocaine and the high

Checking your wallet with unfocused eyes

Enough for more you realize

Grab the phone dial the number

It’s very late, dealer slumbers

Standing up unable to walk

Saying good night’s with chitchat talk

Methods to wake him you connive

Now attempting the car to drive

Looking around all the streets

Praying there are no visible police

Finally in the neighborhood

Get out of the car if you just could

Crawl up to the house in dark shadows

Tapping keys on all the windows

Waiting for a sign or sound

Squatting low to the ground

Brightly the porch light comes on

Hand you rock, mentioning how strong

Back to the car tighten that grip

Sitting quietly taking a first hit

Paranoia hits with a crack high

So intense drive the car to hide

Heart is racing cheeks are hot

Pupils dilated to a large black dot

The rear-view mirror constantly find

Nothing chasing it's all in your mind

Run through the next red light

Crash dad’s car but still upright

Police find crack and booze

Back in jail singing the blues

Comes the “crash” and "comatose" sleep

Saying nothing not a single peep

How could I have done this once more

Relapsing behind iron closed doors

WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE?

A relapse is so hard to recover from, sometimes I think it can be harder than coming off drugs in the first place. I think you have a lot more on your mind, a lot more thoughts and a whole lot more to think and worry about. Coming off drugs is hard, for sure but relapsing makes you feel like you can't do it. You have to be extra careful with your next steps and you really need to set your mind to it.

You can't just take a little bit, it leads to more and more, we cannot seem to stop or help ourselves when we are put in a situation like that.

Another powerful write.

Not until the book is published! Hee-Hee
This is good stuff! It's almost like a short story and it was like I delved straight into the mind of this person who is suffering with addiction. It seems you know exactly what you're talking about and the rhyming scheme made it all even easier to understand.
